Airshows

Royal International Air Tattoo. RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire. Dates for 2012: 7-8 July.
RAF Waddington. Lincolnshire. Dates for 2012: 30th June - 1st July.

Castles

Caldicot Castle: Just over the Welsh border.
Conwy Castle. Possibly the most impressive castle in wales.
Dunvegan Castle on the Isle of Skye, home to the MacLeod clan for nearly 800 years.
Edinburgh Castle. Museums, the Scottish National War Memorial, the Scottish Crown Jewels, and more.

Caves

Creswell Crags. Visit a limestone gorge honeycombed with caves. There is also a museum here.
Heights of Abraham. Take a cable Car ride to the Masson Cavern and the Rutland Cavern.
Poole's Cavern. A two million year old, natural limestone cave situated in Buxton Country Park, Derbyshire.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Glasgow.
Peak District Mining Museum. Matlock Bath, Derbyshire.

Nature Reserves

Red River Local Nature Reserve. A small but much-loved haven in Loscoe, Derbyshire.

Open Farms

Highfields Happy Hens. Open farm, Farm shop, Tea room, Play area.
White Post Farm. For a child friendly family day out in Farnsfield, Nottinghamshire.

Outdoor experience

Conkers. An award winning attraction at The Heart of the National Forest.

Lea Gardens. Matlock, Derbyshire. Known for the rhododendrons and azaleas, but open only for a few weeks each year.
Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh. 70 acres of gardens plus plants from tropical, termperate and desert regions in the glasshouses.

Rivers & Canals

The Falkirk Wheel. The engineering masterpiece that links the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal.
Princess River Cruises. Cruises on the Tees and the Trent.

Railway Museums

The Bluebell Railway, a preserved steam railway in the heart of Sussex.
Golden Valley Light Railway. Butterley, Derbyshire.
Midland Railway. Butterley, Derbyshire.
National Railway Museum. York.
Peak Rail. Runs between Matlock, Darley Dale, & Rowsley, Derbyshire.

Theme Parks

Alton Towers. Staffordshire. Rides for all ages, and gardens to view as well.
Gulliver's Kingdom. Four parks: Warrington, Cheshire; Matlock Bath, Derbyshire; Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire - Theme Park and Eco Park.
Sundown Adventureland. A theme park for the younger children. No big rides for teenagers. Rampton, Nottinghamshire.

Waterparks

The Barnsley Metrodome. Barnsley, Yorkshire.

Salcey Forest. Maintained by the Forrestry Commission. Near junction 15 of the M1.

Twycross Zoo. Famous for its apes and monkeys. Leicestershire.

Woburn Safari Park. Bedfordshire. J12 or 13 from the M1.
