Loscoe Dam dates back to 1300's, when it was used to keep fresh fish for the nearby Codnor Castle.
Today, it remains popular with anglers and walkers, as well as those just wanting somewhere quiet and pleasant to relax.

Losoce Dam looks set for improvement after a lottery funded study of the area concerning its value to the town and public opinion.

Recently, £48,200 was spent consulting local residents and assessing the area. As a result of these studies, plans have been drawn up for
work on pathways, carparks, litter bins and benches around the dam. Almost 60% of people asked said that they were keen to
maintain the site's heritage, showing the dam's importance to Loscoe's community.
The planned work also includes the removal of silt from the lake to provide fresher water for the fish and wildlife living in and around it.

The area is already full of character and is a popular place for locals and visitors. Some improvements are
clearly desirable: the quality of the water and the pot holes in road. Let us hope, though, that Loscoe Dam retains some of what
makes it special and remains a peaceful haven in the middle of a busy and bustling area of the Midlands.
