Why can't... A selection of niggles of the modern world

On another page in the Just for fun, we ask why it is that the little packet of salt is always at the bottom of a packet of crisps, except when you open the packet up-side-down.

In a similar vein, we pose some more questions. Ulike the packet of salt scenario, though, in most cases something could easily be done about these things.

Do let us know about any others you think of, won't you?

USB Sockets

A brilliant invention allowing us to plug almost anything from a camera to a dongle into our computers. But why can't they put them in accessible places instead of under a ridge (where you can't see them) or round the back (where you can't even get to them) ? Why can't they make them visible? Do they have to be a black hole against a black background?

Tins of soup

Who decided to print the heating instructions for a can of soup in tiny black writing against a dark red background?
Why can't they think about the people who have to try to read these things?

Ready meals

More instructions, this time of the edge of the box.
Why can't they print them on the back of the box so that we can read them with the box lying flat on the cabinet?

Power adapters

Does every mobile phone, portable CD player, Broadband router, recharable torch, game console, and desk lamp really need its own design of power adapter? Why can't they standardise them so that, if you've already got enough of them at home, you don't need a new one with every item that you buy?

Annoying drivers

If you're waiting at a roundabout, how annoying is it when another driver looks like he or she is going to go straight on, but actually takes the exit before yours? If you had known, you could have safely proceeded on your way. Now you have to wait for another gap. Why can't these people use their indicators?
